Bangkok Pride Festival and Parade
May 28 to June 1, parade from 3pm on May 31
Chong Nonsi Canal Park to Rama I Road (parade)
Free, registration for marching groups via Zipevent
The festival that has outgrown every container they’ve tried to put it in returns under the theme “Patch the World with Pride,” a phrase that reads like a gentle manifesto. This year the parade stretches an audacious 4.8 kilometres, starting from Klong Chong Nonsi Park and barrelling down Silom Road, the district that has served as a symbolic heart for generations of queer Bangkokians. A 300-meter rainbow flag longer than anything seen before in the city will roll over Silom like a second skin.
At Suphachalasai Stadium the legendary Mor Lam troupe Rabiab Wathasilp brings the sounds of rural Isan to the urban centre, reminding everyone that queer resilience in Thailand has folk roots as deep as any nightclub thump. The organisers expect around half a million people this year, a number that, absurd as it might sound to anyone who remembers the modest 20,000-strong parade of 2022, actually feels about right.
The official Bangkok Pride channels (@bangkokpride.official on Instagram) will post check-in points and real-time route changes. For those joining the march, free registration is open now on Zipevent.
